Creating a melting pot of Country and Western Swing afficianados from different musical schools in one band

El Dorado is a six piece band from the Blue Mountains who, play Classic Country and Western Swing. And, they do this with a level of skill that has their growing fan-base raving. They’re also great to dance to - a toe-tapping rhythm section gets the dancers on the floor before they know what’s hit them.

These musicians come together from many musical backgrounds:

Greg McClain: lead vocalist and drummer. Originally from California, Greg has successfully plied his trade in many genres and on many continents for over forty years.

John Stuart: Pedalsteel Guitar. Formerly guitarist for Blues legend Renee Geyer and a member of the Field. In El Dorado,
his versatility and skill shines through on pedalsteel guitar.

Dave Crestani: Bass. A go-to bassist for touring and local acts since the Eighties, Dave is infused with the natural funk necessary to anchor some of Australia’s top Reggae, Latin and Blues bands. He and Greg provide a powerful engineroom.

Leigh Birkett: Electric Mandolin. The Celtic connection in the band linking the roots of Country music to its European origins. Leigh has been the longtime collaborator of Irish favourite and Australian Folk Icon, Martin Doherty among others.

Stewart Peters: Rhythm Guitar, Lead Vocals. Cutting his teeth with the seminal Vanda and Young, Stewart has gone on to have an illustrious career with countless recordings, scores and arrangements to his name.

Tim Cunningham: Lead Guitar. The newest member of the band, Tim comes from a hard-working, gigging background that includes the driving blues of The Honey Stompers, the Rock-a-billy raging of Rachel Brady and the Moonshine Special. He’s also equally in demand in the jazz world.

El Dorado features songs by Country greats like Hank Williams, Willy Nelson, Waylon Jennings and many other classic Country artists. More modern offerings come from the likes of Alison Krauss and Vince Gill. You also get treated to
rip-snorting instrumental classics from the kings of Western Swing - legends like Bob Wills, Noel Boggs, Buddy Eamons
and Spade Cooley.

El Dorado play music that is instantly recognisable, infectious, witty and just plain fun. A great band to dance to.

As Country legend Merle Travis says: “When it escapes in all its musical glory, my friend, you have Western swing.”

- That’s El Dorado.
